Thirty years on from the discovery of a new species of pliosaur in Wiltshire in 1994, Bristol Museum & Art Gallery has launched Is that Doris? an illustrated childrenβs book that follows the adventures of the prehistoric marine reptile, Doris.
The picture book is based on a story created by volunteer interpreters for families and schools as part of the Pliosaurus! exhibition that was on display at the museum in 2017. As well as the fossil, the exhibition featured a life-sized model - made by local model maker, Tone Hitchcock - of what the pliosaur may have looked like in life. The model, named Doris by museum visitors, can still be seen suspended above the rear hall in the Bristol Museum.
You can buy the book from the Bristol Museum website or on site with all the profits going to keep the museum running.
